Form Oils, Curing & Bonding Agents

CALSTRIP

Surface-Retarding Form Release Agent - To expose aggregate and to produce a keyed surface for subsequent rendering or abutting concrete pours.

EFFECTS:

Calstrip forms a tough, semi-glazed coating on formwork, which very slowly dissolves in the concrete surface to prevent set. On striking of forms, the retarded surface mortar is brushed or hosed off to leave a roughened or aggregate exposed finish. Does not stain render. Fully compatible with other Cementaid products. Calstrip is a safety product and will not reduce the strengths of cement exposed to it, once the retarder effect has worn off.

NOTE:

The concrete should be placed against the treated form in such a way as to prevent premature removal of the Calstrip by abrasion.

WHERE RECOMMENDED:

As release agent for all concrete formwork where either an exposed aggregate finish or a roughened surface is required. For horizontal exposed aggregate paving work, spray Calstrip at the rate of 4-6 square metres per litre on to the freshly screeded surface to be exposed, (depending on depth of exposure required) and cover with dense plastic sheet until immediately ready to hose-off with low pressure water spray, to expose aggregate. For architectural / exposed aggregate work, trials are recommended to determine optimum application rate and technique to achieve required finish

SPECIFICATIONS

All formwork shall be treated with one liberal coat of Calstrip stripping and keying agent, applied at least four hours before pouring concrete, allowing minimum one litre per 6 square metres, or reduce coverage for deeper exposure. The form surface(s) may be treated up to one week before pouring concrete, but shall be protected from direct sunlight and / or rain by covering with polythene sheeting, taped in place. During removal of the formwork (within 1-14 days), the exposed surface should be immediately scrubbed down with a stiff broom, or hosed with water jets to remove retarded surface material and expose roughened surface for rendering etc. For architectural / exposed aggregate work, trials are recommended to determine optimum application rate and technique to achieve required finish.
